On one hand, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, hereinafter designated as the EMSC, and represented by its President, Dr C. Browitt,

on the other hand, the Istituto di Ricerca sul Rischio Sismico of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, hereinafter designated as the IRRS, and represented by the Director of the IRRS,

- This cooperation is not limited and could be completed or modified in the form defined in Article V.


Article II - Contribution of each party:

- The contribution of IRRS will include the maintenance and update of parametric earthquake catalogues as well as the maintenance and update of an historical/macroseismic database, with the cooperation of different European seismological centres in accordance with provisions of EMSC's rules and regulations. Providing this contribution, IRRS will serve as an EMSC key nodal member.

- The contribution of the EMSC will include the circulation of information on the macroseismic database to European institutions and to members of EMSC, as well as the gathering of macroseismic records from EMSC data providers.


Article III - Terms of application

To ensure the efficient working of this agreement, each party will be supported by the needed staff:

- the IRRS concerning its seismological staff who will develop, maintain and update the catalogue and database including the corresponding tasks;

- the EMSC concerning its Coordination Bureau in charge of dissemination of information concerning the catalogue and database.


Article IV - Coordination:

The Director of the IRRS and the President of the EMSC will be jointly responsible for all the actions taken within the framework of this agreement.

Coordination meetings intended for the modifications of these actions will take place if the two parties believe it is necessary.


Article V- Modification of the agreement:

On the request of either party and by common agreement, the present agreement can be modified by an additional clause.


Article VI - Start of the present agreement:

The present agreement will come into force as soon as it is signed by both parties.


Article VII- Term:

The present agreement is set up for two years.

At the end of this period, it will be renewed by a tacit agreement for a two-year term, except in the case of a denouncement by either party. The denouncement shall be written and mailed by a special delivery not less than three months before the expiration date of each term.
