Abstract

Many sources, ancient and modern, use the word "earthquake" in a wide sense, including landslides, rockfalls, etc. This use however lead to misinterpretations by uncritical seismic catalogues, listing not only geological processes triggered by earthquakes but also those occurring independently. Examples are either developed or briefly mentioned.
