Abstract
Il presente lavoro presenta lo studio di revisione del più forte terremoto (MW 5.6 nel Catalogo Parametrico dei Terremoti Italiani CPTI15) avvenuto nell’area della Provincia di Roma il 26 agosto 1806. Un’analisi preliminare dei dati presenti nel CPTI15 e delle relative fonti, ha evidenziato diverse incongruenze nell’attuale stato delle conoscenze dell’evento. Scopo del lavoro è stato quindi di riconsiderare interamente il corpus delle fonti note e contemporaneamente intraprendere una ricerca per nuove testimonianze. La ricerca ha portato ad arricchire il quadro informativo del terremoto, assegnando nuovi valori di intensità e ricalcolando la magnitudo macrosismica dell’evento, che risulta decisamente più bassa di quella attualmente presente nel record di catalogo.This paper presents the revision study of the strongest earthquake (MW 5.6, data source Parametric Catalog of Italian Earthquakes - CPTI15) that occurred in the area of the Province of Rome on August 26, 1806. A preliminary analysis of the data and related sources in the CPTI15 shows several inconsistencies in the current state of knowledge of the event. The aim of the work was therefore to reconsider the entire body of known sources and simultaneously undertake a search for new evidence. The research resulted in an enrichment of the information picture of the earthquake and in the assignment of new intensity values. The newly estimated macroseismic magnitude of the event is significantly lower than that currently in the catalog record.
